York Middle School
No matter who is right or left or up or down, student achievement scores are trending down or stagnant in most of the gap groups. For instance, Mr. Shafer (York County School Board, District 1), at York Middle School, 58% of the students with disabilities did not pass their English test outright. And what about the black students? Since 2019, over 1/3 of the black students at York Middle School could not pass their English test and 1/4 of them could not pass the math test. Is this acceptable? 16% of the students were chronically absent… that is 102 students, about 4 classrooms full of students (24/rm) Next year the standards become more strict. This needs to be the major concern for York County. Perhaps the School Board and citizens could be about Analyzing the Data, setting targets, and complying with the Standards of Quality (SOQ) to improve student achievement for all students, especially these that are struggling!
Dare Elementary School
The black students ability to pass their English test has steadily declined: from a 3 year avg of 33% not being able to pass, to 38% not being able to pass, and then this past year, 40% were not being able to pass. This would seem to be the wrong direction. Last year, 45% of the students with disabilities could not pass the English test. Then, In Math, 47% of the students with disabilities could not outright pass the math test. 51 of 379 students were chronically absent… that is about 2 classrooms full of students chronically absent (24 students/rm) All taken from the School Quality Report.
