The York County School Board convenes two meetings per month: a work session and a regular meeting. These sessions are aired live on YCSD-TV (Cox Cable channel 47 (SD), Cox Cable channel 87 (HD), and Verizon channel 39), as well as on their YouTube channel. Additionally, special meetings, public forums, and public hearings may be scheduled by the Board as needed. Work session and monthly business meeting agendas are made available on BoardDocs at least three working days prior to each meeting. Notices and agendas for special and closed meetings are posted simultaneously with their notification to School Board members. Meetings are usually scheduled for the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at York Hall, 301 Main Street, Yorktown, VA, unless specified otherwise.
Regular Meetings
Regular meetings serve as forums for conducting school business, taking action on matters requiring Board approval, and acknowledging the contributions of students, staff, and community members to the school division. These meetings are open to the public, and individuals desiring to address the Board may do so during these sessions. Those wishing to speak are asked to sign up in person before the start of the business segment of the meeting. Regular meetings are usually scheduled for the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at York Hall in Yorktown.
Public Engagement at Board Meetings
At designated times during any regular meeting, individuals from the community are welcome to speak to the Board about matters concerning the York County School Division. To address the Board, please make your request before the commencement of the Business segment of the meeting.
Regular Meeting Invocation
The York County School Board has recently decided to incorporate an invocation into the Board’s Regular School Board Meetings to enhance the solemnity of the proceedings as the Board addresses significant issues affecting York County residents.
Recognizing and respecting constituents of all faiths, the Board holds no faith as superior or inferior to others. Therefore, the Board extends invitations to individuals who are leaders of local churches or those with no religious affiliation to deliver an invocation, observe a moment of silence, or share a brief statement reflecting on the gravity of the matters before the Board.
The Board’s regular meetings typically occur on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The invocation will be scheduled on the Board’s agenda prior to the business segment of the meeting, approximately 30-45 minutes after the meeting’s commencement.
To facilitate the process for those interested in offering an invocation, the following procedures have been established:
- Please complete the online form expressing your interest.
- Upon receipt of your completed form, someone will contact you with further scheduling details.
- Invocation opportunities will be arranged based on the order in which they receive completed forms online.
Work Sessions
The School Board convenes work sessions to facilitate discussions and delve into particular topics with more depth, often in a less formal manner. These sessions are open to the public but do not incorporate a public comment segment. They are typically held on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at York Hall.
